I Stopped Booking Spa Appointments (and Built a Corner of My Sofa Instead)
Lire en français
I used to book spa appointments the way other people book haircuts: rarely, guiltily, and always at the last minute. By the time the day came, I'd either be too busy to enjoy it or too tired to drive across town for it.
So the ritual came home with me. It lives in a corner of my sofa now, and it involves exactly one device: the Beauty Mask.
What it actually is
It's a rechargeable LED face mask. You put it on, pick the light colour that matches your mood, close your eyes, and that's the entire protocol. Some evenings I go for a warm tone. Some evenings a cooler one. There is no app to sync, no subscription, no 14-step setup video to watch first. On, colour, pause.
What it isn't
Let's keep this honest, because the internet won't: this is a relaxation ritual, not a treatment. I use it the way other people use a bath or a meditation app: to mark the end of the day and actually stop. If someone promises you a mask will rewind time, close the tab.
The setup that works for me
Lights low. Phone in another room, which is the hardest instruction in this entire article and also the most important one. Mask on, ten quiet minutes, sometimes with music, usually without. Then it's off to recharge for next time, and the rest of the evening feels noticeably slower, in the good way.
The part nobody mentions
The real luxury isn't the mask. It's the not-leaving-the-house. No parking, no small talk, no wondering if you remembered to shave your legs. Just a sofa, a blanket and a few minutes where the day is officially over.
If your evenings have been ending with you scrolling until your eyes hurt, try ending them like this instead. Appointment-free, pyjama-compatible, and done before your tea goes cold.
